CHEMMATRIX — HAZARDOUS-SUBSTANCE WORKPLACE CHECKLIST

This checklist is a starting point only. Requirements depend on the substances, classifications, quantities and workplace.

[ ] We have identified every hazardous substance and hazardous waste held at the workplace.
[ ] Our inventory records the product name, maximum quantity and storage location.
[ ] Current safety data sheets are readily accessible to workers and emergency services.
[ ] Original and secondary containers are correctly labelled.
[ ] Incompatible substances are separated and stored safely.
[ ] Fuel, cylinders and chemical stores are secured and protected from ignition sources.
[ ] Required signage, fire extinguishers, bunding and spill equipment are present and maintained.
[ ] Workers have information, training, instruction and supervision for the substances they handle.
[ ] PPE is suitable, available, maintained and used correctly.
[ ] We have considered foreseeable spills, fires, leaks and exposures.
[ ] Our emergency arrangements reflect the substances and quantities held.
[ ] We know whether certified handlers, location certificates or other specialist controls may be required.
[ ] We review the inventory and controls when products, quantities or work changes.
